Oxidizer (Class 5.1) Storage
Oxidizers can intensify fire or cause combustible materials to ignite more readily. They need strict segregation from fuels, solvents, and organic materials.
Class, Division, and GHS meaning
DOT Class 5 covers oxidizing substances and organic peroxides. Division 5.1 is oxidizers (solids/liquids that yield oxygen). GHS “Oxidizing liquids/solids Category …” labels describe relative oxidizing strength.
Storage implications for rental buildings
Use dedicated oxidizer-aware storage, keep combustible packing and flammable liquids out of the same compartment unless a reviewed segregation plan allows it, and prefer buildings with secondary containment for liquid oxidizers.
